The digicamera is down, possibly terminally so I'm going have to dig into the reserves supernova style until the issue is resolved to keep visual input quota at acceptable levels. Expect memory lane, old cookbooks, and scanned food for a while.
Tapas at the Rabbie Burns Pub in Smith Street, Melbourne. Pre-Highlander this may have been highly incongruous, I didn't bat an eyelid - nor should you. The wine was red and Spanish and good and where are those notes I made?

Hey you know, I'd like it a lot if you could have a look at a D100 or a D70, then at least I'll know where the locals stand on prices and can have a think. Wouldn't even mind stumping up a few hundred on a decent second hand 3.1 megapixel jobby.

i'm looking forward to the artistic possibilities of "scanned food". are you going to plop a porterhouse directly onto the scanning plate? how about a kaleidoscope view made of coldcuts?

Exactly what I was wondering, Santos... I guess cold cuts, pizza and pancakes would scan best. Beef or tuna carpaccio would be really pretty but it's hell getting the olive oil off the flatbed scanning plate.

Rabbie Burns? tapas? I'm sorry but having been raised on the ubiquitous fryer in scottish cuisine, i don't think those things go together. Now, deep fried pizza is another thing all together... anyresemblance

Sorry to hear about your camera. =(
I am, like the others, looking forward to the scanned food. For starters, why don't you begin with the gado gado you made recently, then work your way towards some of those wonderful gyozas you made a while back!
Seriously, a friend of mine has a D70 and is not very happy with it. Don't know why, but I'm going to play around with it soon enough. In the meantime, have you taken a look at the new Panasonic cameras? The DMC-FZ20S has a nice Leica lens, 12x optical zoom (!!!) as well as a great image stabilizer. Had a chance to play around with one recently and was almost convinced to buy one at US$549. I think I'll wait for the price to come down a bit more. If you want something more compact, they have the DMC-FX7 for US$449 (I think).

I'm gutted. It just wont read the memory cards. Had a bit of a look in the shops tonight and finding it hard to make up my mind whether to just get anything, get a small camera (the Olympus Stylus is a great piece of work) or go SLR and use my lenses - trading in my F100. Might just have fun with my scanner for a while. Didn't see any Panasonic cameras (limited market here) but did see a Leica Lens attached to a Leica camera - woof! down boy.
