Japan, Karaoke - blood on the tracks.

debasaaaaaaaaargh Apologies, just a couple of pic only posts from Tokyo as I'm out of typing action from a faintly riduculous karaoke related injury. At a karaoke box, last song of the night, 2/3 of the way through nailing "Debaser" and the glass partition I was leaning against gave way and I followed it - falling a metre onto my back. Bit of claret, distressed karaoke staff, a trip in an ambulance and over a dozen stitches in my right hand, back, and head. Lots of laughs at the hospital at my stretchy smurf hat they gave me and when I dozed off on the table and started snoring. Kudos to the hotel staff for not blinking an eyelid when I came back at 2am just wearing jeans, shoes and bandages. All in all aok, could have been nastier, and learnt that there are worse things at karaoke than having to wait your turn.

Hi Anthony,

Hope everything is OK. It must be difficult to get injured in a foreign country. Sounds like you're having a blast though.

You are my hero! Debaser on karaoke AND a freaky injury all at once. You are too cool for me.

I'm glad to hear that you are ok and that no alcohol was involved.

Just think how things could go wrong if someone was stupid enough to be intoxicated.

Aaah, nothing like a bit of performacne art. Blood and singing - takes me back to the Viennese Actionism of the 1960s. Glad to see you're willing to suffer for your art.

Or is this some sort of weird post-modern reference to EoMEoTE, in a Humpty Dumpty kind of way???

[Seriously, hope you're OK and that it wasn't your egg-whipping hand that got hurt...]

OK silly man has enough sympathy but much appreciated.

No [more than usual] alcohol was involved, I think I was giddy with excitement that the Pixies had finally knocked off Englebert Humperdink. And yes the performance artlessness continues.

You did finish the song while languishing on the broken glass waiting for the stretcher though, didn't you? There's nothing more upsetting for the audience than a song ending prematurely on an unresolved chord....

(Also very glad to hear that you are okay - that is a LOT of stitches)

"There's nothing more upsetting for the audience than a song ending prematurely on an unresolved chord...." If you've heard me sing, it wasn't soon enough. And yeah most were in my finger and with no local, ouchy.

If it makes you feel any better I was playing Singstar (Karaoke battle playstation game) and I fell whilst doing some ridiculous ska dancing to Madness which resulted in the tearing of ligaments in my right ankle. The nurses at the hospital thought it was hilarious, I haven't been able to run in 5 months... ah well.
